Internationally educated applicants (IEA) must successfully undergo NACOR’s Prior Learning and Recognition Assessment, Case Based Interview (CBI) and a Competency GAP Analysis (CGA). Applicants seeking contact lens licensure and the eyeglass designation must possess academic training in contact lens practice and undergo a second CBI and CGA. Depending on their qualifications, work experience and the results of their CBI and CGA applicants may be required to write one or both National Exams, have one or both of the exams waived or be required to complete online coursework or undergo supervised practice. Although rare, other opticianry or eye care diplomas are not necessarily required if the IEA has received significant workplace training.
